Rioting in London

Hectic day today, doing a course in central London, so getting up early and getting home late. Luckily the City isn’t affected at the moment, but Ealing isn’t too far away , so very conscious of sirens etc. Definitely much higher police presence on the the streets. we live in a quiet area but our local high street has police positioned on most of the major crossroads.

Streets themselves had far fewer people, must admit glad to be home, strange atmosphere.

On a more positive note, he has managed to get out sailing again today , two days in a row – definitely getting stronger!! Family party on Sunday for his dad’s birthday, not only meeting up with his brothers, but also his fifteen year old son, none of whom know about his diagnosis. Think he is feeling apprehensive in case lots of questions about less hair, what he has been up to , why lack of contact etc, he doesn’t want to mislead anyone, but equally feels very strongly that as there is nothing anyone can do , he doesn’t want to cause any extra heartache.

The good news is his son is bringing along a ” girlfriend”, first one introduced to the family , so there will hopefully be no room for any extra news.

  1. Hi there , my dad has meso and will have been diagnosed 2 yrs in november , he had surgery and chemo and at the last scan still no growth- each day is a blessing as a family friend also got diagnosed with it and refused surgery – given 8 months ( he’s a smoker) terrible illness , made me rethink a lot of things , we got married so dad could be there , we bought a house cos he wanted us settled. each day he waters his veg and tinkers with his farm equipment ( he’s only 58) and each day we are grateful for his irritating ways ( and he can be irritating!!) he goes to bed around 6pm but gets up during the night and sends email anytime from 3 am onward (never did sleep well) and generally gives off during the day about any number of things but we are lucky soo soo lucky

  2. Thanks so much for your comment, and hope your dad is well, and continues to be irritating for a very long time. Think I am going to have to accept that I can’t get my head around living between scans, so better just to accept what we have and enjoy life.

  3. I thought I’d come back to this and add another comment. Dad is now in a decline and the other man I mentioned died on xmas day. I reckon we;ve had Dad around 4 yrs with meso – starting with pneumonia . he’s struggling most days now and cant do much but still went clay pigeon shooting for boxing day and to a horse show today. Have strength through will power will travel no matter what!
