A winters tale

This seems all  very deja vu , same drain, same pot, same hospital food . Never mind school dinners, where’s Jamie Oliver when you  need him.

The initial operation seems to have gone OK , this time he’s concentrating more on the deep breathing exercises. The only problem is the stronger pain medication  which  makes him a little bit “off with the fairies” during longer conversations. On the plus side , it has made him quite mellow, usually he is a much  more  grumpy patient.

As usual constipation is the main area of concern, so any useful suggestions greatfully received.Night sweats seem to be less of an issue this time.

Fluid still draining , so no idea yet when the chest drain can be removed.

The mental challenge of retaining normality and staying positive , is as great a challenge as dealing with the physical side.

Starting out

My partner was diagnosed with mesothelioma  in October 2010, he is only in his forties and up until 2 months ago , appeared to be in good health, so we are just coming to terms with the shock of the diagnosis. He is currently in hospital having just had a pleurodesis for the second time.

Never before has the phrase a day at a time been more meaningful, and I know you should  give  thanks for what may be , not for what is past, but sometimes hope can seem a season too far .

When everyone who knows best gives up – now may be the best time to know less.
